If you've been looking to build up a speedy but comfortable road bike for UK roads then starting with a road buzz-killing frame is crucial.

Bianchi's Infinito is a lightweight carbon disc frameset aimed at endurance riding.

The carbon layup features Bianchi's Countervail technology which kills loads of road buzz, helping to reduce fatigue and generally keep you more comfortable on the bike.

Colnago CLX Evo Disc Road Bike Frameset

If racing and climbing at warp speed is more your thing, then the Colnago CLX Evo Disc frameset would be the perfect start to a superbike build.

The monocoque frame has internal routing along with flat mount disc brake fittings for a very clean build.

Colnago frames are sized differently to many brands, so give the geometry chart a close look before buying. For example, we'd usually ride a 52cm frame which equates to a Colnago size 50s here.

Shimano Dura-Ace 7900 Road Chainset

Shimano Dura-Ace 7900 Road Chainset
£199.99

We don't know where Merlin has found stock of this chainset but this is an excellent chance to refresh a worn 10-speed Dura-Ace chainset.

The 7900 series used the 5-arm crank design which was perfectly fine in our opinion.

Merlin has a range of crank lengths with compact ring sizes.

Sram Rival 1 Rear Derailleur - 11 Speed

Sram Rival 1 Rear Derailleur - 11 Speed
£64.99
Commerce content is independent of editorial, and Farrelly Atkinson earns commission from promoted products

Ditching your front mech? You'll probably need a new rear mech.

Going 1X is great for many riders, but the rear mech has to do more work to keep the chain on the chainring.

The Rival 1 features a clutch mechanism to improve chain retention.

Sram Red 11 Speed Groupset

Sram Red 11 Speed Groupset
£1179.00
Commerce content is independent of editorial, and Farrelly Atkinson earns commission from promoted products

A new groupset is one of the biggest upgrade that you can make to your bike and this mechanical Sram Red groupset is one of the best.

This one is set up for the climbers, with a low overall weight and great gear ratios for heading uphill.

The 172.5mm crankset has 50/34 chainrings. This is paired with an 11-28 cassette to give you a low gear for tackling the steeper gradients.

Craft Be Active Short Sleeve Base Layer

Craft Be Active Short Sleeve Base Layer
£9.95

For most rides, even in the summer, we use a base layer when riding on the road and trails.

Good ones, like the Craft Be Active are great at wicking sweat away from the skin and they also have the secondary benefit of stopping bugs from crawling around on your skin.

The soft fabric has been cut to fit close to the skin, making it comfortable to wear under a jersey.

Giro Sentrie Techlace Road Cycling Shoes

Giro Sentrie Techlace Road Cycling Shoes
£99.00
Commerce content is independent of editorial, and Farrelly Atkinson earns commission from promoted products

Down from a whopping £220, these Giro Techlace shoes combine a BoA L6 dial with Giro's Techlace closure system.

Giro believes that this lace/velcro system offers better fit across the lower part of the foot and also spreads pressure more evenly.

An Easton EC70 carbon sole provides a stiff base for transferring power through to the pedals.

Oakley Jawbreaker Prizm Sunglasses

Oakley Jawbreaker Prizm Sunglasses
£125.00
Commerce content is independent of editorial, and Farrelly Atkinson earns commission from promoted products

Offering great lens clarity for road riding and excellent coverage, these Oakley Jawbreakers have been a firm favourite of ours for ages.

These are some of the easiest sunglasses to take apart, making cleaning them a breeze.

The lens gets Oakley's Prizm technology which tunes your vision to best suit the riding you're doing. In this case, the lens is optimised for road riding.
