A hugely popular choice because of their light engagement and release tensions, these are also some of the cheapest carbon pedals available.

Ok, so you have to rock a South Korean flag on your pedals, but we're never looking at our pedal when riding so it doesn't really matter!

The platform is plenty wide enough to prevent foot pain and you get a load of float to help avoid knee pain.

If you're looking for your first pair of clipless pedals to try being clipped in then there are few better road options than these.

The release tension is really light, allowing you to remove your foot quickly at lights and junctions.

These will also make a great pair of 'cheap' pedals as the pedals are robust enough to last the British winter!

This option will be very popular with commuters.

The light action combined with the easier walking with MTB cleats and shoes makes these pedals ideal for the daily commute and also ripping through the woods!

Time Atac XC12 Ti Carbon Pedals - £157.50

Used by 3 x World Cyclocross Champion Wout Van Aert, this is a serious racing pedal.

Although not renowned to be as good at shedding mud as rivals like Shimano's XT or Crank Brothers' Candy, Van Aert seems to find them more than capable in the toughest conditions.

These are a seriously light pair of MTB pedals at only 241g. That figure is helped by the carbon body and titanium axle.
