The Mega Week Roundup: Muc-Off, Shimano & CamelBak
Friday, May 4, 2018 - 11:10
It's the Grand Depart of the Giro d'Italia today so we've got a few bits of pink kit to celebrate.
Alongside that, there are deals on nutrition, clothing, components and accessories to sink your teeth into.
Muc-Off C3 Ceramic Dry Lube
Buy the dry lube at 54% off and get the Ceramic Wet Lube for free!
That's quite a deal, especially when both lubes are so highly rated. This offer will give you smooth shifting whatever the weather.
For normal riders like us, the lube stays on the drivetrain well, resisting dust a water without causing too much mess.
The Dry lube is one of the only summer lubes that can withstand winter riding. When Shaun Audane tested this, he found it to run very clean, suggesting that it won't pick up a load of road gunk.
The Wet lube is much tougher and designed to withstand some truly horrendous riding conditions.
In our experience, the lube is brilliant. We leave this stuff on for a full week of winter riding, only cleaning once on a Saturday afternoon.
Kask Protone Road Helmet
The Kask Protone is one of our favourite road helmets.
It combines aerodynamics with some massive vents, making it ideal for fast riding in warm weather.
The helmet is also really comfortable to wear while also being very secure. It even comes in pink!
Fizik R3 Aria Road Shoes
The carbon racing shoes have a touch of pink with neon highlights.
It reminds us of Lampre Merida, a quintessentially Italian team with plenty of attacking riders.
While they are quite bold, they'll match well with more modern kits. Right now, they're 17% off too!
Made by Camelbak, these quality bottles feature a lockable lid.
There's an option for either 610ml or 710ml if you need extra juice. The styling is classic Rapha with a very simple design and a single bold colour.
Science In Sport Go Energy Powder
This stuff is brilliant for long, hot days in the saddle.
The subtle flavours combined with a perfect 48g of carbs per serving make this one of our race-day essentials.
We've been using SIS products for years now and the Go Energy powder has been a ride essential for any long day.
The tub includes a scoop which makes getting the right amount in a cycling bottle easy. Then just add water and there's no gas released like with tablets.
The drink is quite tasty in our opinion, like a slightly weaker Lucozade Sport or an Aquarius. We certainly didn't get bored of it during daily consumption on our Mallorcan cycling holiday.
The drink delivers 48g of carbohydrate per serving, of which, only 3.5g is sugar.
Audible 30 Day Free Trial
There are loads of books available, from cycling books to Game of Thrones!
This trial is a great way to try out audiobooks. If you enjoy listening, your next month is only £7.99.
There are loads of books to choose from. There are funny autobiographies from the likes of Geraint Thomas and Phil Gaimon, to the more serious look at the Festina affair by writer Alasdair Fotheringham.
The book that you download is free for you to keep, even if you cancel your membership.
Other benefits include big discounts of up to 60% on subsequent audiobooks.
It's the perfect commuter listen and gives a great alternative to music when on the turbo or in the gym.
All your audiobooks can be accessed via the Audible app, available for iOS, Android and Windows.
MyProtein Cycling Range
If you're looking to optimise your performance, then specific cycling nutrition is essential.
MyProtein has a range of great cycling-specific products for pre, during and post ride fueling.
We're also big fans of their Impact Whey Protein powder, a simple post-ride or gym drink that mixes well, tastes good and provides all that we need to recover.
The number of sports that MyProtein create nutrition products for is huge and the cycling range is pretty extensive.
To prepare the body for riding, Tri Carb is ideal for loading the body with the Maltodextrin, Fructose and Palatinose that it will be burning. One serving provides 48g of carbs making it an ideal pre-race drink.
When racing crits and CX, we regularly use a caffeine product to give us the kick needed for such a fast start. This powder sachet mixes with water to provide 200mg of caffeine kick. If you're also getting stuck into the gym, this Creapure creatine is ideal for supporting short bursts of power. That makes is very popular with sprinters.
The code that you need to take advantage of the extra 20% off is EXTRA20
There is also free next day delivery on every order over £30 and free protein on orders over £60!
Shimano CM-2000 Action Camera
We love a good action camera, great for filming descents and also shoddy driving!
Whatever your intended use, this Shimano camera provides brilliant footage with secure mounting options.
Just watching that footage makes us want to race! The camera here was mounted under the saddle and gives a brilliant wide-angle allowing us to see loads of the road.
The image is stable throughout and the detail is more than good enough. The camera also handles the change from bright to dark areas really well.
For mounting, an out front mount like a K-Edge that combines the camera and your computer is the neatest solution we've found.
Shimano Dura Ace R9100 11 Speed Groupset
A whopping 44% off this brilliant groupset.
If you want the smoothest mechanical shifting with the best rim brakes, this R9100 groupset is what you need.
Dura Ace has long been the groupset of the professionals, with Shimano's top end kit offering the lightest weight and best shifting.
The latest Dura Ace now features Shimano's Shadow technology at the rear mech. This keeps it underneath the cassette. This provides crisper shiting and also protects the mech from crashes.
The front mech has also seen a design change with the actuation arm being shortened from the older model.
This deal allows you to pick the cassette ratios, crank length and the chainring sizes. This makes it perfect for getting the gearing that is right for you.
Shimano Di2 D-Fly Wireless Unit
Need to diagnose an issue with your Di2 or just want to know what gear you're in?
Shimano's D-Fly unit allows you to see data about your gearing and also connect them to your phone for diagnostics.
These little units solved a big problem for anyone wanting to diagnose problems with their Di2. Whereas before, you had to have a Windows-based laptop, purchase the Shimano software and a special laptop connection, this allows you to connect via the mobile app.
This opens diagnostics up to iOS users. We've had first-hand experience of shiting issues caused by a pinched wire resulting in a short-circuiting of the system during every shift! A simple look at the app means the problem got sorted quickly.
The on-bike uses are also very good. The unit allows the gears to talk to a Garmin so that you can see the gearing information and Di2 battery level easily.
Apple MacBook Pro 13" with Touch Bar
Buying refurbished is a great way to save serious cash.
Choosing a reputable seller is really important, but we've used CK IT Computers before and they're brilliant.
If you're using a laptop daily, be it for work or general use, it's important to get something that will stand the test of time.
We've found MacBooks to be capable of heavy daily writing and image processing use.
This version is the latest model with the touch bar. Internally, it features an i5 processor with 2.9Ghz of power.
That's backed up by an 8GB RAM, providing smooth operation under heavy use.
Le Col Premium Cycling Kit
This sharp and stylish kit is premium stuff.
There is plenty of choice up in this price range, but Le Col is establishing itself with some brilliant pieces of kit.
The company is based in Italy where they design and produce their kit from start to finish in Treviso.
It's an area known for its knowledge of technical sporting garments and it's where Le Col stayed when others moved elsewhere for cheaper production costs.
While we were in Italy for road.cc Italy Week, Dave was testing the Pro Jersey and HC Bib Shorts. Not only did he look stylish, he was also very impressed by the comfort on our longest day in the saddle, an 8 hour slog through the mountains.
Le Col are offering new customers 10% off when they sign up to emails. We think that's a pretty good deal on what is excellent kit!
Camelbak Podium 710ml Water Bottle
Who knew you could even upgrade your water bottles!
These bottles from Camelbak are ideal for both on and off the bike. The lockable Jet Valve prevents spillages in your bag.
The ability to lock the top makes this ideal for sticking in your rucksack when you're hitting the trails.
This fills a nice gap when you don't want to ride with your hydration pack, but still need a little water on your ride.
The bottle is also great for commuters and you can guarantee zero leakage onto your laptop.
The bottle is also the easiest to clean as the Jet Valve can be dismantled for a thorough scrub.
Giro Synthe Mips Helmet
This aero helmet gives great ventilation making it perfect for training and racing.
The Synthe is Giro's answer to the issue of hot aero lids. The helmet gets addition protection from the Mips system inside.
Giro wanted a helmet that was fast but didn't boil the rider when the sun came out.
The helmet offers a brilliant fit and whilst the Mips system does add a little weight, it's still only 254g in size medium. We'd take a little extra protection over a few grams any day!
The Roc Loc retention system provides a secure but comfortable fit which is also 'ponytail compatible'.
One of the neatest features that we've noticed is the compatibility with our Oakley sunnies. They store securely in the front of the helmet in dedicated ports.
Feedback Sports Sport Mechanic Workstand
This workstand is reliable and easy to use.
Feedback's Sport stand is the one used in the road.cc office. It's seen a fair amount of abuse over the years but it's still going strong.
The Sport is easy to assemble and getting the bike secured is straightforward thanks to a well-made clamping system.
There's not much flex in the system either, making working on the bike much easier.
This really comes into play when you come to jobs like wrapping bar tape where a little extra force is required.
The office stand has also seen plenty of water from washing bikes and there is no visible rust.
The deals listed on this page are the best deals on the best cycling products we can find. If you purchase anything as a result of clicking on a deal, Farrelly Atkinson Ltd may earn some commission: on some we do, on some we don’t.
