The Mega Week Roundup: Cheapest Shimano Prices, Superbikes & More
Monday, June 4, 2018 - 10:22
This week we've found all sorts of brilliant stuff, from superbikes, to bargain overshoes.
There is also a super-helpful list of the cheapest prices on each Shimano road groupset.
We've done a whole article with the best deals on Shimano Road groupsets which you can find here.
It's got everything from Sora through to Dura Ace Di2!
ProBikeKit have a massive warehouse clearance on right now.
There are some really good deals, but we've picked out a few highlights.
Giant Propel Advanced 2 2017 Road Bike
This super-fast aero bike is perfect for racing and fast riding.
The Advanced frames have been used by pro teams, winning loads of races. This one gets a Shimano 105 groupset for amazing performance at a great price.
The frame features slippery tube shapes and a high level of stiffness for maximum speed in a dash for the finishing line.
This model, the Advanced 2, is the entry-level carbon build. That's not to say it's compromised, there's a ton of trickle-down technology from the top end model that the pros use.
The most noticeable is the brakes, in that they're barely visible. Giant have integrated them into the forks to make the front end as smooth as possible.
The seatpost is also optimised for aero gains and sits perfectly with the rest of the frame.
Finishing kit is all from Giant themselves, the stock PA-2 wheels being the first thing on our upgrade list.
De Rosa King XS Dura Ace 9100
This De Rosa King XS is a thing of beauty.
The frame is a head-turner for all the right reasons and it climbs like a dream.
De Rosa have used full mechanical Dura Ace 9100 for a really lightweight build and one that works superbly.
While some would be inclined to use Campagnolo on an Italian frame, we prefer the functionality of Dura Ace over the aesthetics of Campagnolo.
Finishing kit comes from 3T with the Ergonova Pro bars and Arx Pro stem. The wheelset here is a pair of Fulcrum Racing Zero, shod with Vittoria Rubiano Pro 25mm tyres.
This bike was designed to climb and as such, De Rosa has used a semi-compact 52/36 crankset paired with an 11-28T cassette for a spinnable climbing gear.
Castelli Alpha ROS Soft Shell Jersey
With near year-round usability, this jersey/jacket is a great investment.
Back in the good old days, there were heavy winter jackets and light summer wear. Now though, the lines have been blurred slightly and you'll probably find yourself using a jersey like this throughout most of the year.
The reason that this jacket was given top marks by Mat Brett in his review for road.cc is its ability to keep you comfortable across a range of temperatures.
The outer layer is completely windproof, blocking all the wind thanks to the Windstopper 150 fabric. It's not waterproof, but the surface is treated with a coating that makes light rain bead off.
The inner layer is a fleecy fabric which Mat said adds a lot of warmth, allowing him to be comfortable from 0°C-12°C.
The jacket works really well with Castelli's Scudo gloves, currently in the clearance at only £25!
Schwalbe Pro One MicroSkin TL-Easy
One of our favourite tyres in a tubeless ready version. What's not to love?
Schwalbe Pro One tyres have a really nice fast feel out on the road and their TL-Easy system makes going tubeless really simple.
The best thing about the Pro One tyre is the versatility.
They've been raced in the pro peloton by numerous teams and also do really well on weekend-warrior bikes.
The reason for this is a great combination of grip, longevity and low rolling resistance.
The addition of the TL-Easy system is just a bonus in our eyes as it makes tubeless setup much easier than other tyres we've tried.
Cycliq Fly12 Front Camera Light
This immensely popular commuter camera is cheaper than ever.
The looping video records in 1080p HD and combines with the 400 lumen light to get footage at any time of day or night.
We'd prefer it if we didn't need one of these. But with more hours spent commuting in heavy traffic, the likelihood of a mishap increases.
The Fly12 is ideal for commuters as it will record video in a loop allowing you to capture evidence which can make a difference when trying to get a prosecution.
The camera films in 1080p at 45fps, giving detailed video, even at night. The one button footage protection means that your evidence is easily saved should the worst happen.
Add to that the 400lumen light, and you've got an all in one package that's perfect for town and city riding.
The best setup is found when pairing this with the Cycliq rear, giving front and back video footage.
Altura Etape Overshoes
At only £7.99, you really can't go wrong.
These overshoes are waterproof, wind resistant and also get reflective detailing.
A lightweight, waterproof pair of overshoes is the perfect item of winter kit to own. While the thickest pair might be tempting, we find these to be a better layering option and more useable year-round.
In deep winter, we've had great results layering these on top of oversocks. This combination work well below freezing and means we've still got options for warmer weather without buying more kit.
This, the first version of the Etape overshoes features a light waterproof outer that is covered with a thermal material inside. They fit really well and have also lasted, with no stitching issues.
The rear features some reflective detailing which is a bonus for commuters like us. At £7.99, these are an incredible bargain.
Muc-Off Nano Tech Cleaner 1L
Cleaning your bike should be a regular task, but it needn't be an expensive one.
Muc-Off have become known for making this bright pink liquid that cleans bikes effortlessly.
During the winter, our bikes get covered in who knows what. The weather outside has been awful and all you want to do is go inside for a warm shower and a recovery ale.
Cleaning your bike can, occasionally, be quietly forgotten. The thought of spending 20 minutes cleaning a filthy bike in the rain is too much to take.
One of the best things we've discovered is Muc-Off. We lean our bike up, spray the whole bike with this stuff, then head inside to run some hot, soapy water. By the time we come back the bike is easy to clean and the whole process takes about 5 minutes.
The NanoTech cleaner breaks down dirt and oil on the bike, meaning that it's easier to remove when you return with the soapy water.
Endura Pakajack Showerproof Jacket
Being clad in lycra isn't suitable for every occasion, making this jacket ideal for getting about town.
The lightweight windproof and showerproof shell is combined with Primaloft insulation and a reversible design for on and off the bike wear.
This FlipJak is reversible, with one side being a highly visible green with reflective detailing for riding and the reverse side is a sleek black down jacket, ideal for not standing out as a sweaty cyclist at the pub.
With Endura being based in Scotland, the jacket is designed to cope with cold wind and the occasional shower.
The jacket features a chest pocket which we find ideal for storing our phone and hand pockets for when it gets really chilly.
The jacket also squashes down pretty small, fitting nicely in a backpack should the sun ever come out.
MyProtein Cycling Range
If you're looking to optimise your performance, then specific cycling nutrition is essential.
MyProtein has a range of great cycling-specific products for pre, during and post ride fueling.
We're also big fans of their Impact Whey Protein powder, a simple post-ride or gym drink that mixes well, tastes good and provides all that we need to recover.
The number of sports that MyProtein create nutrition products for is huge and the cycling range is pretty extensive.
To prepare the body for riding, Tri Carb is ideal for loading the body with the Maltodextrin, Fructose and Palatinose that it will be burning. One serving provides 48g of carbs making it an ideal pre-race drink.
When racing crits and CX, we regularly use a caffeine product to give us the kick needed for such a fast start. This powder sachet mixes with water to provide 200mg of caffeine kick. If you're also getting stuck into the gym, this Creapure creatine is ideal for supporting short bursts of power. That makes is very popular with sprinters.
